An eye for a motorbike?

Kids tonsured for stealing detergent packets...Eyes gouged out for robbing a motorcycle...And the crowning glory of barbarism - ten men lynched to death on the mere suspicion of being thieves!

Can one imagine the extent of monstrosity, the barbarism, the gruesomeness of man the animal?

Is the incapability/dishonesty/inactivity of the police any justification for these acts? Most emphatically NO. Senseless Violence and Destruction are carryovers from our Neanderthal pasts - indication of dull, underdeveloped, unenlightened minds. Uneducated minds.

I have come across a few nasty jibes here and there for being a Bihari. But never have I felt more ashamed of belonging to Bihar than the day I came to hear of this news. What a blackspot!
What especially hurts is the reason behind these killings - had it been rape or murder one could have considered it. But theft? Dear me! The Taliban touch?

I hope strict action is taken against the accuseds as soon as possible to serve as deterrants. And I hope the Police take it as a slap on their faces and get into action. Let's see how many such hopes materialize.

well...i may not agree on a few things, but it will again lead to a lot of controversy.

Hey controversies don't hurt so long as they lead to healthy discussions :)

Deepti,
Why do you think such incidents are happening at a place which was the first republic of Human civilization.

1. Poverty - the stuff that is stolen/looted has cost the owner his sweat and blood.

2. Uneducated masses - many of us are illiterate and amongst the literate ones most are uneducated. Mindless violence and free-for-all destructiveness is encouraged in unenlightened minds.

3. Anger against law - the police sleeps - believe me it does, and many a times literally, too - the common man has deep rooted anger and hatred against them which comes out in moments like these.

Well but all these factors were active even 2 years before, why is it happening now?

COOLDEEPTEA said...

But who says it wasn't happening 2 years before? Chain snathers my locality ended up badly bruised about a year and a half ago...witnessed the thrashing of a thief at the Patna Junction about 3 years ago...the pouring-of-acid-in-the-eye incidents inspired Gangajal...The 10 men getting lynched is a massive scale thingummy...besides, media coverage has escalated since the past..

The Bhagalpur Acid incident happened in 1984 but currently manny incidents have happened in a span of 15 days.Probably media is just hyping them? They occured before but were not hyped?

COOLDEEPTEA said...

oh yes...it is common for the media to publish/air a spate of similar incidents if one such thing has already stirred the masses.

Sorry...Bhagalpur incident in 1979-80.Thats what I wanted to know from you.Because Media sometime creates a hype about few things where were very much there even before. Thanks for your inputs. Now I know the real picture.
