ispite of the despairing words, these songs still r so so soulful .... sometimes even getting sentimental is so nice.... sometimes even tears are such a grt relief....sometimes even sadness is pleasurable....sometimes even pain is so sweet!!!!!

Oh You are back...Nice Post :-)
Teesri Kasam song is my favorite.

Tumne "Dekh Lo aaj Humko Ji Bharke" suna hai, its from 1982 movie Bazar. Gulzar saab ke likhe kai
aise gaane hai jo mujhe acche lagte hai...Jaise Leela or RainCoat ke gaane.

BTW I have downloaded the Is Raat Ki subah Nahi song and quite liked it.

Thanx Ramyangshu and Kabir. Man, 'Bazaar' ke saare gaane superb hain :) Would you agree that Gulzar is our century's answer to Ghalib? I think so.

Atlast after ages, getting to read your blog and so soulful,I must say.

But I wouldn't say the songs you mentioned were all despairing bcause there was somewhere in the lines, some craving, some hope for love and life.

Take Farhaaz Sa'ab's line "Meri khanabadoshi se poochhe koi…kitna mushkil hai rastey ko ghar bolna",he longs for a home and there lies that saprk of living.

Similarly,Javed akhtar's "Magar dil wo kambakht hai ki tab bhi ummeed karta hai...shayad kabhi...shayad kahi".here again Ummeed...Kehte hain na Ummeed pe duniya kayam hain.

So, I'd have preferred the term Soul-Stirring words rather than despairing.

Jab ummeed asambhav ho to kambakht dil ka ummeed karna kaafi despairing ho jaaye! (If what one hopes for is impossible, the silly heart that still hopes shall come to despair) :(

And yes, I had not noticed the nuance of positivity in the khanabadoshi line until you pointed out June :)
